Weekly Stock Market Summary

Within this article you can find a weekly summary of what happened within the United States stock market. In particular, you can find 4 types of information:

  • Weekly performance and performance of the 5 winners and losers of the best stock indices in the world.
  • Weekly performance of the S&P 500 sectors.
  • FAANGs weekly performance, or 5 of the most important companies listed on the US stock market.
  • 5 winners (and 5 losers) companies who released the earnings reports this week and the reactions of the 10 largest capitalization companies.

The purpose of this analysis is purely informative.


Performance of the best indices and components

The Weekly performance and performance of the 5 winners and losers of the following indices:

  • S&P 500
    • index of the 500 largest U.S. publicly traded companies.
  • NASDAQ 100:
    • index of the largest non-financial companies listed on the NASDAQ.
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average:
    • index of 30 United States bluechip companies.

The S&P 500 index (which includes the 500 largest U.S. publicly traded companies) ended the week with a negative performance ( -11,49% ).

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals ( 10,27% ) and Qorvo Inc ( 2,43% ) the best stocks of the week. American Airlines Gp ( -31,52% ) and Flir Systems Inc ( -27,22% ) the worst.

Communication Services sector ( -9,45% ) is the best of the week. Energy sector ( -15,37% ) is the worst.

The NASDAQ 100 index (that includes the largest non-financial companies listed on the NASDAQ) closed the week with a negative performance ( -10,43% ).

The best of the Nasdaq 100 index are Regeneron Pharmaceuticals ( 10,27% ) and Gilead Sciences Inc ( -0,49% ). The worst of the week are American Airlines Gp ( -31,52% ) and Tesla Inc ( -25,86% ).

Finally, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index (which includes the 30 United States bluechip companies) ended the week with a negative performance ( -12,33% ).

This week winners of the Dow Jones Ind. are 3M Company ( -4,90% ) and Pfizer Inc ( -6,44% ). The losers of the week are American Express Company ( -18,51% ) and Boeing Company ( -16,73% ).

The weekly performance of the so-called FAANGs, or 5 of the most important companies listed on the US stock market:

  • Facebook (F)
  • Apple (A)

Earnings Reports Reactions of the week

Inside the two screens it is possible to find the 5 Winners / Losers company (market cap > 1 billion) reactions to the publication of the earnings report during this week and the reactions of the 10 largest capitalization companies.

In addition, the EPS with respect to those forecast by the analysts with the relative “% Surprise” are shown, ie how much the reported EPS were better / worse than analysts’ expectations.
